Located in the heart of Colaba, Araku Café is India’s first café and restaurant rooted in regenerative agriculture. Serving specialty coffee, locally inspired café food, and craft cocktails, Araku Coffee Colaba blends sustainability with innovation in a warm, community-driven space.
This Colaba café features a modbar for artisanal brews, a curated book nook, an open kitchen, and a mezzanine housing a bakery and cocktail bar. Whether you're stopping by for a morning espresso, a wholesome lunch, or an evening glass of wine, Araku Café offers a unique experience centered on soil, sustainability, and slow food.
Backed by the Naandi Foundation, Araku is part of a larger movement toward conscious consumption. The café reflects the award-winning food model #Arakunomics, which won The Rockefeller Foundation’s Food Vision 2050 Prize.
Perfect for locals and tourists alike, Araku Café in Colaba is your go-to spot for handcrafted coffee, curated meals, and mindful hospitality in South Mumbai.
Iconic location
Nestled in the heart of the historic Colaba neighbourhood, ARAKU finds its home on the ground floor of Sunny House, an iconic century-old building built in 1897 by the Nawab of Surat. Once boasting a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea, Sunny House, over time, stood in the shadow of the eminent Taj Mahal Hotel.

Food Philosophy
The food at ARAKU draws on everyday ingredients in imaginative ways. You’ll find little to no exotic ingredients on the menu, yet the flavours are immensely contemporary and global. The restaurant firmly focuses on produce and growers with regenerative agriculture and organic practices at their core. The dishes speak to the endless possibilities with prosaic ingredients we’ve come to take for granted.

Beverage Programme
Specialty coffee and craft cocktails elevate the beverage programme at the restaurant. Beyond the classic coffees, the Modbar offers several playful brews borrowing from the Bangalore flagship. Barista recommends: Dark & Stormy, Vanilla Ice and Café L’Orange.

Vibrant Design
Designed by New York-based architect Jorge Zapata, ARAKU welcomes guests with the signature Modbar, prominently placed near the entrance. Renowned Bangalore-based designer Sandeep Sangaru brings a touch of brilliance to the space with bamboo chandeliers crafted by local artisans from North East India. Adorning the wall is a 3D depiction of the terroir of Araku, where tribal farmers grow coffee in over 60,000 small coffee estates. The ‘nook’ is a curated corner of books, featuring a genre-agnostic collection of critically acclaimed titles. The open kitchen on the ground floor allows guests to witness the chef’s process, even engage with the team. The expansive bakery on the mezzanine complements the kitchen, and teases signs of a strong bakery programme – much like that of ARAKU, Bangalore. Also on the mezzanine is a relaxed cocktail bar and lounge where guests are invited to discover an experimental bar programme.
One is also introduced by a new mascot ‘Re-GenX’ figurine spread across the space, an embodiment of the vibrant ARAKU spirit. Renowned art and design collaborators include – Sangaru Design, SĀR Studio, Josmo, Richard Mater Pike and Saubiya Chasmawala.
