Cold Brew Coffee: How to Make Cold Brew at Home
12-16 hours
What is Cold Brew Coffee
Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee in cold or room-temperature water for 12–18 hours, resulting in a naturally smooth, low-acid cup that highlights sweetness and aroma without bitterness. Because it is never exposed to heat, cold brew has a rounder, cleaner flavour than iced coffee, which is brewed hot and then cooled. The method dates back to Kyoto-style brewing in 17th-century Japan, and today can be easily replicated at home using an immersion brewer such as the Hario Cold Brew Bottle, designed for consistent extraction and effortless storage.
You will need
Coffee amt & grind size
desired amt & coarse grind
Water amt & temp
60 gms & room temp
We recommend starting with a 1:10 coffee-to-water ratio. So for every gram of coffee, add 10 grams of water (that’s roughly 2 teaspoons). For one cup, start with 20g of coffee and 200g of water. Experiment to find the perfect ratio for you.
Steps to brew
1
Measure out the desired quantity of coarse-ground coffee. All of ARAKU’s coffees are well-suited to this method, but we highly recommend Micro Climate for its fruity flavours.
2
Place the coffee grounds in the mason jar or similar container. If you’re using the Hario Cold Brew bottle, place it within the fully enclosed filter. Next, pour in the water and stir or shake the jar to evenly wet all the grounds.
3
Allow it to steep overnight at room temperature. Or leave it in the fridge for 16-18 hours. The Hario Cold Brew carafe is made using heat-proof glass, so it withstands any temperature shocks.
4
After 12 or 16 hours have passed, pour the brew through a strainer. The silicone mouth on the Hario allows for a neat and filtered brew. Serve and beat the heat!
5
Pro tip: Another easy way to make a cup of cold brew is to use ARAKU Pocket Brew sachets, which come with a filter or drip bag. All you have to do is place the sachet in a cup, pour in the water and let it rest overnight before you remove the drip bag and enjoy your cup.
6
You can store the rest of the brew in the fridge for upto 72 hours.

Signature
ARAKU Signature coffee is sourced from the village of Kuthangi Thadeput in Araku Valley, where coffee grows under the shade of silver oak trees entwined with pepper vines. The rocky, well-aerated soil and elevation support the slow ripening of the coffee cherries, allowing greater flavour complexity to develop. Cultivated by farmers Boyi Radha and Simhadri, the coffee is grown alongside pepper, millets, turmeric, and paddy using regenerative agriculture practices.
Micro Climate
Rich, mellow, intensely fruity, it offers an aroma laden cup. With its generous body and wholesome notes of candied fruit, it lends itself perfectly to filtered brew, pour overs or a French Press. A unique coffee from rare terroirs of gently sloping, diversely shaded highland micro-plots situated on a river island.
Grand Reserve
Sourced from the highest and most select plots—the Grand Cru—of Araku Valley, ARAKU Grand Reserve coffee is cultivated at high elevation by farmers Badnaini Sombabu and Subadramma.
